2015 was the year I went Vegan and began working my way around my local vegan (and vegetarian) eateries, one delicious, plant based meal at a time.
In no particular order, here is a round up of the Veg restaurants and cafes I stuffed my face at in 2015.
The Gate is one of the finest Vegetarian restaurants in London and has been one of my family’s special occasion restaurants for a while and this was my first visit as a Vegan. They have a few, clearly sign posted vegan options on their menu and they’re happy to adapt any of the vegetarian options as well. Their cocktail menu is incredible and this is the best place to people watch ever!

My go to place for lunch if I want a treat. Vx sells a groceries (they stock hard to find brands like Jeezo, Wheatys & Premium Chocolatiers), Footwear (Etnies), Apparel (their own designs including sweatshirts, t-shirts and bags) and they have a Food counter where they can whip you up the best nachos you’ve ever had, enormous kebab wraps, sandwiches & burgers, as well as an array of cakes and treats.
I lost track of the number of times I visited last year, I’d guess around 10 and if say that 8 times out of 10 it would be the nachos
Over the Summer, for a few glorious months, they pitched up their hot pink tent at Granary Square every Thursday and served up their incredible Jackfruit burritos.
If you ask for your burrito to be very hot, you will not be disappointed. Most places are scared to give you actually hot hot sauce when you ask for it but these guys have some exceptional hot sauces to offer.
Sadly they aren’t at Kings Cross Kerb any more so check their website or social media if you want to track them down.

Not bad but not the best place I’ve been. The food was pretty good.

This vegetarian restaurant is hidden away above a very unassuming looking pub. You enter the restaurant by going behind the bar to enter the Grandma-chic dining room. The staff were super friendly and I loved how kitsch everything was.
I had the burger and onion rings (both very good) and my husband had the tofush which is the dish they’re best known for and I had total order envy!
Phil T took over the kitchen at The Black Heart pub in Camden last year, serving up a range of dishes to suit everybody (aka he does meat and fish too). What’s so special about his menu though is that he isn’t creating exciting carni-meals and then throwing in some vegan options as an after thought – Phil has such incredible options as a BLT where the B is very thinly sliced mushrooms cooked up in liquid smoke to give it a bacon-like smokey taste, Hoisin Jackfruit Buns & Cauliflower Buffalo Wings. They’re now offering takeaway boxes too.

The only downside to this place is that it’s not near a tube stop (it’s a twenty minute walk from Brixton tube). It’s massive, the menu is large, they have a Morrissey shrine wall, pool tables and amazing cocktails.
This is the Fat Gay Vegan burger (it’s a Vegan Big Mac that blogger FGV added to the menu), with a side of their seitan wings. 10/10 and I can still taste that mojito now
I was told you usually have to queue for a table here so I did what anyone would do…took a day off work so I could arrive after the lunch crowd and before the dinner lot. It worked and we were seated right away.

Peanut butter brownie and Ice cream
Based in Camden Market and offering desserts such as brownies, doughnuts, milkshakes and cookies.
Sadly I didn’t manage to track down a slice of their elusive Chico pie (it’s like a really thick cookie) in 2015 but, spoilers, I had one last month and it was divine.
The hazlenut brownie (although I prefer their marshmallow brownie)
