When my Husband & I first moved to Highbury we fell head over heels in love with a local Greengrocers. It wasn’t exactly the closest one, there was Mrs Lovell’s on Highbury Park but they were too expensive and not as good, there was our local Turkish shop who we loved but they didn’t have as much variety and it wasn’t the same quality, but Newington Green’s Greengrocers was and is a cut above the rest.
They have the juiciest limes, the hottest chillies and the plumpest tomatoes. If you want an avocado which is perfect every single time (and I know that you do), then you want to buy your avocados from here. On my last visit I even spotted that they’ve started to stock edible flowers and as a vegan with an Instagram account that excited me greatly.
They are always cheaper than the supermarket. We’d be filling up a basket to the brim and only be spending a tenner. When it was time to move out of our Highbury flat we only considered flats that were still within a walkable distance to Newington Green and we managed to snag ourselves a flat one road over! That is what you all living the dream! Even when we moved over to West London a couple of years later we were still popping back at every opportunity.
We always pop in when we are in the area but now we live in the countryside our visits are few and far between but we made sure to stop by before our visit to local vegetarian/vegan café Bodega 50. I wanted to share a few pictures from our recent visit because I miss it and who doesn’t love some gratuitous veg shots!?
NEWINGTON GREEN FRUIT AND VEGETABLES
109 NEWINGTON GREEN ROAD
Open every day 8am – 10pm
Forever grateful to Instagram Queen Tsouni @yesitsallvegan (that’s her actual surname) for all of her amazing food recommendations.
Honestly, if you’re a Vegan with an Instagram account but don’t follow her then are you even a Vegan with an Instagram account? She is the greatest.
This weekend I visited Bodega 50 on Tsouni’s recommendation. It’s a small but perfectly formed veggie cafe on a leafy side street in Stoke Newington and they have the best green juice I’ve ever tried.
This weekend saw the World Cup Final of Beer hosted by Street Feast at Hawker House.
Ten English Beers vs. Ten German Beers. Forty long years since England last won the World Cup, will our years of hurt finally be over?
We tried the ten English beers (in cute lil’ 1/5 of a pint cups) as we only had time to try one lot and the queue was shorter at the England bar. It was so nice to be able to try some new beers and find a few that I loved and one that was very questionable that I now know to avoid forever. Shout out to Barnivore for helping us to make sure we were only drinking the Vegan ones.
Street Feast’s big slogan for the weekend is “Eat. Meat. Bier. Repeat.” – Ew. Thank fuck for Club Mexicana. View Post
Last week I wrote about the hints from Club Mexicana that something new was on the way and all has now been revealed!
Club Mexicana’s new venture is here and it’s some totally banging salads (and some totally awesome and colourful design work to go alongside them)!
You hear that? That was the sound of everybody’s jaws dropping to the floor as they logged on to Instagram this morning. Club Mexicana have just dropped the most exciting sliver of news as they announced they’re working on a little sister street food venture to run alongside their incredibly popular 6 existing locations!
