When did you go vegan?

Went vegan in March 2015

Why did you go vegan?

I went vegetarian just as a ‘challenge’ with my best friend. We were initially only doing it for 30 days to see if we could. Once the 30 days were up I couldn’t go back to eating meat; I did a lot of reading and the research just resonated. From thereon it was a snowball effect.

The actual/main reason I went vegan and have found it so easy to STAY vegan is for health reasons; heart disease, cancer and diabetes are very prominent in South Asians and I know that these can all be prevented with lifestyle choices.

What have you found challenging/difficult?

At first it was difficult just adjusting to people’s comments and sassy questions. I come from a vegetarian culture so the food has never been an issue; just had to get used to swapping butter for oils and not eating yoghurt with my lentils!

What product most surprised you when you found out it wasn’t Vegan/Cruelty free?

I can’t even remember; I had such a warped perception of food before going vegan that nothing really surprises me anymore! 😉

If you could say anything to your previous non-Vegan-self what would it be?

Stop poisoning yourself with chemical loaded food, stop eating out so much, learn how to cook wholesome plant based food and just CARE about yourself because YOU are important and you deserve the best 🙂

What are your favourite Vegan restaurants/cafes/shops?

Our Cottage, London (near Alexandra Palace station) is my FAVOURITE vegan shop; I generally do my weekly grocery shopping from there and they have an AMAZING selection of raw salad boxes and juices. Any time I am in a crap mood, all I have to do is spend an hour at Our Cottage and I leave in high spirits. Would definitely recommend it to EVERYONE

What is your favourite/best Vegan documentary/book/Instagram account/blog/YouTuber?

Three of my favourite instagram accounts are @RealMrsMillis, @IAmTza and @Soulstones_By_Milli because they are fearless in spreading the TRUTH; a huge following is irrelevant, truth is their priority and I really respect them for that

Which well-known vegans would you have at your fantasy dinner party and what 3 course meal would you serve?

Literally don’t know who I would invite! But this is probably what I would make for a vegan dinner pardy:

Starters: A raw salad with purple carrots, kale, cucumber, tomato, zoodles, pine nuts, chickpeas and hummus with some squeezed lemon

Main: either pizza on a spelt base or mushroom tagliatelle pasta in a creamy sauce

Dessert: Chocolate and coconut cookies with some banana nice cream

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about going vegan?

Do it for a reason that resonates with you; be that health, the environment or the animals. Just make sure the reason is SUSTAINABLE for you … it’ll make the journey so easy. And find likeminded friends/family to spend time with!

Please can you show us a picture of the inside of your fridge/cupboards?
