About Me:
Stay at home club member. Lover of all baby animals. Self-confessed hoarder. Wanderluster. Dressmaking enthusiast. Roast potato / chocolate chip cookie addict. Admirer of floral arrangements. And according to my Twitter bio, Vegan bellend.

Favourite Animal:
My personal favourite animal is my little pooch, Obi-Wan. While I literally love every animal, especially small and fuzzy ones, I do have a particular fondness for goats.

When did you go vegan?
Just over 6 months ago.

Why did you go vegan?
I was a vegetarian for about 4 years before going vegan, and I just realised one day that I was being a hypocrite by valuing certain animal’s lives over others. I haven’t looked back since!

What have you found challenging/difficult?

Finding convenient vegan food on the go, eating out with family/friends that aren’t vegan. However, I’ve gotten much better at preparing snacks, and checking restaurants in advance to see what I can eat and what can be adapted! I also live with my boyfriend who is a meat eater, so it can be tricky occasionally to eat together, but we make it work!

What product most surprised you when you found out it wasn’t Vegan/Cruelty free?
So many things. I’ve found that some supermarkets just love sneaking milk in products you wouldn’t expect! Double-checking products is just a given now. The hair dye I have used for about two years is cruelty free but not vegan (ugh lanolin) so I’ve had to experiment with different colours that are.

If you could say anything to your previous non-Vegan-self what would it be?
What the hell are you waiting for?!

What are your favourite Vegan restaurants/cafes/shops?
I’m so lucky to live in Manchester! We have so many options; my favourite takeaway is Lotus vegetarian kitchen, (vegan sweet & sour ribs whaaat?!) my favourite place for burgers is V Revolution, my favourite cafe for dining on a budget (& the BIGGEST serving sizes) is Teatime Collective, and my favourite breakfast is at Fuel cafe

What is your favourite/best Vegan documentary/book/Instagram account/blog/YouTuber?
Post-punk kitchen, Minimalist baker, and Avocados and Ales are my favourite blogs when I’m looking for recipe inspiration. A lot of the time, though, I just make stuff up as I’m going along depending on the ingredients I have in, even though I have tons of vegan cookbooks! My excuse is that I’ve lent most of them out to friends in the hopes I can turn them!

Which well-known vegans would you have at your fantasy dinner party and what 3 course meal would you serve?
Courtney Act, Ellen Page, Woody Harrelson, Emily Deschanel, Moby & Alicia Silverstone.
(I’m imagining the dinner party to be in L.A so I’m going with a summery menu)
We’d start with summer rolls – rice paper stuffed with crunchy veg, tofu and mango and served with a spicy peanut dipping sauce, followed by a build your own taco station, (they’re not too precious to assemble) finishing off with gooey chocolate brownies with raspberries and vanilla ice cream.

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about going vegan?
Don’t let cheese stop you. But seriously, keep an open mind. If you want to do it, you can definitely do it.

Please can you show us a picture of the inside of your fridge/cupboards?

Any further comments or anecdotes to share:
If I never again hear the words ‘but what about bacon?’ for the rest of my life, I’ll be absolutely thrilled.
