Favourite Animal: Cats are awesome but I do love all animals.
When did you go vegan?
September 2015 properly, before that I’d been doing it a for a couple of months in a half hearted way.
Why did you go vegan?
My mum had been vegan for a year or so before I decided to make the change and she introduced me to some pretty horrifying facts about animal farming and issues around meat and sustainability. So I watched a few films, read some articles and that was it, I knew I could never eat animal products again.
What have you found challenging/difficult?
Funnily enough I have found other people’s reactions to be the most challenging and difficult thing. Some people either just don’t get it or are very concerned about where you get your protein from. I’ll let you in to a secret, there are other protein sources than meat. You heard it here first.
What product most surprised you when you found out it wasn’t Vegan/Cruelty free?
There wasn’t a product in particular, however I was shocked about how many beauty companies still test their products on animals.

If you could say anything to your previous non-Vegan-self what would it be?
Just to be a bit more mindful about what I was actually putting in my body, both in the sense of eating meat and eating rubbish foods, neither of which were nourishing my body or soul.
What are your favourite Vegan restaurants/cafes/shops?
I love Hansa’s in Leeds, which is a Gujarati restaurant, all the food is vegetarian and it’s seriously tasty and very reasonably priced too. Twisted Burger Company, based in Sheffield do mouth waveringly good vegan burgers, for when you just need something a little bit naughty!
What is your favourite/best Vegan documentary/book/Instagram account/blog/YouTuber?
Which well-known vegans would you have at your fantasy dinner party and what 3 course meal would you serve?
I would invite Leonardo Dicaprio, for the Hollywood glamour Ingrid Newkirk, for the powerful female factor and Kip Andersen, just for making a flipping good pro-vegan film. I’d go for a super fresh and tasty salad to start with seasonal vegetables, topped with nuts and seeds and finished with a simple tahini dressing. For our main course I would serve portobello mushroom burgers with sweet potato fries.
For dessert I would serve up baked bananas and allow my guests of honour to choose their own toppings from a selection of goodies like dark chocolate, dried fruit and cinnamon.
What advice would you give someone who was thinking about going vegan?
Start off steady as you are more likely to stick to it than if you try and do it all at once. Like try having at least one meat free meal a day or try going vegetarian first for a month. Also, don’t beat yourself up if you have a relapse every now and again. I found chomping down a beef burger about a month in to being a vegan as I had a major meat craving and although I felt guilty about doing it, in a way it was a positive thing as I remember thinking afterwards how gross it made me feel and that I never wanted to eat meat again!
Please can you show us a picture of the inside of your fridge/cupboards?

Don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t eating healthily all the time. I think people often have this view that vegans must be super healthy all of the time and it’s just not true. I have some days where I just eat crisps, popcorn and Vego bars. OMG Vego bars are amazing! Don’t sweat it, just try and get back on the healthy bus tomorrow, or maybe the next day.
