Name: Ryan Marc Linton | Location: London | Instagram: @ryanmarclinton

About Me: Hola My names Ryan, I’ve been living in London for the past year now, but originally I was born in the Middle east and grew up in Australia. I’ve been up to loads of different things while I’ve been here.. Your classic bar and a hospitality work and then more excitingly film and Tv extra work, modelling and working for Club Mex ! Ive thrown/am throwing myself into the London vegan scene and have found a big love for fitness, bodybuilding and nutrition as well as a bunch of other little things. But i really feel like this past year has been about discovering my true self and waking up to the world around me. So I feel like I’m only age 1 (if that makes sense). But it’s exciting, I’m happier than ever and I feel like it’s just the beginning !

Favourite Animal?

Ahhh hard question. Ive always wanted a pet Lion.  But eagles are pretty amazing. I think all animals are pretty cool.

(Such a cop out and such a boyish answer ha)

When did you go vegan?

I can’t exactly remember but it was about April-ish. So about 6 to 7 months ago.

Why did you go vegan?

I quite randomly went vegetarian cause I guess I thought there was some health benefits, I was starting to find meat a little repulsive and I was just generally curious to see what would happen ( But still very oblivious to what was really going on). And then it just flung me into this world of Veganism, I was researching more and more and within a few months i was vegan. But I’d say the turning point was watching Cowspiracy.

What have you found challenging/difficult?

Especially in the beginning, it was the thought of what my ‘friends’ back home might think of me. I think I come from a very ‘ Manly/Masculine ’ background. And I was worried about what they might be saying about me.

Its crazy to think how much the people closest to you can hinder your decision making or affect your self consciousness.

BTW Giving a fuck is way more manly.

What product most surprised you when you found out it wasn’t Vegan/Cruelty free?

Palm oil ! Its in everything and it’s caused such horrible and irrepatble damage.

I also feel like it takes a back seat, a long with the environment to the animals. When it is just as bad, if not worse. Cause as much as i love animals and would love to see them alive, free and happy. What is that when we don’t have any habitat or environment for them or us left.

If you could say anything to your previous non-Vegan-self what would it be?

Keep an open mind ! Question things and do your own research.

What are your favourite Vegan restaurants/cafes/shops?

Hmmm I feel like theres more and more great ones popping up everyday in London. For some reason I’ve developed this massive sweet tooth lately. So I’m gonna say Ms Cupcake, Cookies & Scream and Cupcakes n Shhht (these guys also just started doing this amazing gluten free burger).

But Pomodoro E Basilico are great, the owner Sara is so sweet. And then of course Club Mex ! But like I said there’s so many and so many I’m dying to try.

I did go to Mildred’s the other day for the first time and it was amazing.

What is your favourite/best Vegan documentary/book/Instagram account/blog/YouTuber?

Leo’s new one, Before the Flood was really good, there’s a lot about palm oil in there and I love how he made it free to view for a time. Brian Turner and Jon Venus from Youtube have helped me heaps ever since becoming vegan. Youtube is an amazing platform for information. The China Study is pretty mind blowing with the facts it produces. I follow too many brilliant vegan food Instagram accounts to choose one. But @VegansofLdn is great if you live in London and @Bestofvegn is pretty great for amazing food.

And then there’s of course Forks over knives, Cowspiracy, Earthlings and the Gary V speech on YouTube.

Which well-known vegans would you have at your fantasy dinner party and what 3 course meal would you serve?

Hmmm.. Leonardo DiCaprio, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Cara Delevingne. And I think the first two courses would just be an all out vegan junk food buffet, with all kinds of Burgers, Pizza’s, Chips, Falafel wraps, Burritos, Nachos, Garlic bread etc and then of course much the same, but dessert style. Ms Cupcake, Cookies & Scream and Cupcakes n Shhhhht can put that spread on thanks.

What advice would you give someone who was thinking about going vegan?

Do it on your own time, don’t worry to much if you make mistakes, it can be a slow process/mind shift. It’s all about progression! Do your own research, look to people on youtube for help and ask for advice from other Vegans you may know. Make the decision on your own. And own it.

Please can you show us a picture of the inside of your fridge/cupboards?

Any further comments or fun anecdotes? Lets do some vegan meet ups, I want more vegan friends haha.

Ryan!! Thank you so much again for taking part in my Vegan Interview series! You’re so passionate and I feel so inspired reading this!
