Oh hi there! Long time no blog. In the most first world of all problems I’ve been without a computer for the last 6 months and blogging without one is pretty hard truth be told. Short story long, things should be back on track over the next few weeks, so buckle up and let’s get back to it.
A couple of weeks ago we headed over to Southend so that we could go for lunch at a place I’ve had on my list ever since moving out of London, the Railway Pub.
The Railway is a hotel, a very well loved music venue and a pub with a cracking vegan menu.
The staff are super friendly, the decor is really cool and they don’t charge extra for condiments. When can I move in??
When I moved out of London a few months ago and into deepest darkest Hertfordshire, one of my biggest worries (because I’ve totally got my priorities right) was that there would be a huge lack of Vegan options.
We were utterly spoilt for choice living in Hampstead. We were a five minute walk away from Le Pain Quotidien, with their chilli and their chocolate cake, and Silverberry Cafe, with their delicious Banana Bread. We were a five minute bus ride away from Club Mexicana, ten minutes on the tube to Yorica and we could get Firezza delivered directly to our door.
Thankfully our new tiny Town does have a few places we can eat out at, we’ve got a banging Chinese (that I’m frighteningly addicted to), our local cafe has a Vegan breakfast and I’ve been helping some other local business to work on adding some Vegan options. It’s certainly turned out to be an easier transition than I anticipated.
Since we’ve moved outside of the M25, we’ve been searching out all of the Vegan places the home counties has to offer.
First on the list was, of course, The Den in Colchester. Opened by Husband & Wife duo Rob & Jen in 2015, they are famous for their epic burgers and beautiful cakes, I’ve been drooling over their Instagram for years and my visit did not disappoint. View Post
“I wanted to bring real Italian food to Britain” – Priscilla Conran
The first Carluccio’s café was opened in 1999 in London, by Antonio Carluccio (one half of the Two Greedy Italians) and his then wife Priscilla Conran (of The Conran Shop). Carluccio’s now has over 80 branches in the UK, 2 in Ireland and 6 in the Middle East. They have quite a large non-Vegan menu as well as small food shops in their stores – (my Nan bought one bottle of olive oil while we were there for about £25!!)
A few weekends ago we were looking for a Vegan & Omni-friendly place for a family celebration and Carluccio’s seemed like a good option for us all. Although from a quick glance at the menu you can see they only have one Vegan option but the Vegan’s in the group all agreed a bowl of tomato spaghetti would be pretty darn agreeable on a cold Sunday afternoon.
