Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! That’s the sound of me FINALLY completing my Club Mexicana locations bingo card.
On the weekend I stopped by Dinerama in Shoreditch to get my long overdue Vegan Mexican fix. Forgive me Father, for I think it has been SEVEN months since my last Club Mexicana!! That is the longest I have ever gone without Club Mex since they opened. WHY oh why did I ever move out of London *shakes fist at sky*
DALSTON | LEWISHAM | HAWKER HOUSE | CAMDEN | SUPPER CLUB
The incredible achievement of completing my Club Mexicana locations bingo card was overshadowed by an even bigger milestone. This was my Mum’s first ever Club Mexicana!
Almost as exciting as when I took my Sister for her first Club Mexicana last Summer in Camden. Taking her first bite of Tofish Taco, dripping chimichurri sauce straight onto my Nephew’s head as he napped in his baby bjorn. This is actually what’s known as a Vegan baptism.
Anyway, Mum LOVED it (of course) and she crowned the Chikn Wings as her favourite dish.
CLUB MEXICANA IS LIFE
In what has been deemed “The Best thing to happen to East London since forever”, Club Mexicana has taken over the kitchen at Pamela in Haggerston. If that wasn’t exciting enough, they’ve done it with an entirely new menu and everything is made from scratch. I repeat, EVERYTHING IS BEING MADE FROM SCRATCH!
That includes the tacos…which includes popping the kernels of the corn in order to make the tacos!!! A whole lot of love has gone into every item on the menu. View Post
At the end of last year I wrote a post about all the new restaurants and cafes I visited in 2015 (there weren’t loads ~ click here to read it) and this year I wanted to end the year with the same blog post.
Last year I only included London and I left out things like high street chains & bakeries and I only included fully Vegan/Vegetarian places, but this year I’ve listed pretty much everything because 1) I bloody love lists 2) I hope it gives you a few places to add to your list of places you want to go to and 3) I love having a list to look back on ~ eating is the best hobby and Vegan joints are my Pokémon.
I’ve included both brand new to me places and places I’ve already been to but tried something new and noteworthy.
In no particular order, here is a round up of the restaurants, cafes and bakeries I have stuffed my face at in 2016. View Post
“I wanted to bring real Italian food to Britain” – Priscilla Conran
The first Carluccio’s café was opened in 1999 in London, by Antonio Carluccio (one half of the Two Greedy Italians) and his then wife Priscilla Conran (of The Conran Shop). Carluccio’s now has over 80 branches in the UK, 2 in Ireland and 6 in the Middle East. They have quite a large non-Vegan menu as well as small food shops in their stores – (my Nan bought one bottle of olive oil while we were there for about £25!!)
A few weekends ago we were looking for a Vegan & Omni-friendly place for a family celebration and Carluccio’s seemed like a good option for us all. Although from a quick glance at the menu you can see they only have one Vegan option but the Vegan’s in the group all agreed a bowl of tomato spaghetti would be pretty darn agreeable on a cold Sunday afternoon. Wahaca is a Mexican style chain restaurant founded by 2005 Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers. The first branch was opened in 2007 and by 2015 they had 19 branches – that is so impressive! This was my first visit to the Southbank branch and my first visit to a Wahaca as a Vegan. It used to be my go to place, so I was really excited (and a little apprehensive) about my visit. View Post
